On coming back (rather than starting)
The moment of taking on a project is beautiful. You are filled with expectation and excitement: anything is possible. There is also a sense of satisfaction that you have finally taken the step and opened the blog/exercised for the first time/wrote the first page of the article you have had in mind for so long.
They say that to start is to be halfway home. This might be true for a project that is finite and can be carried out in several states. Otherwise, you need to build a streak: consistently come back to your practice; show up day after day.
My favourite online yoga teacher, Adriene from Yoga with Adriene YouTube channel, says that the most important thing is to show up on the mat. I believe that she doesn't mean "to start" when she says that. To show up on the mat is to build a streak of consistent practice as part of a lifestyle adjustment: incorporating yoga into your life in a way that it is always present in it. Even if you skip a day or a week, you know that you will come back to it because it is your chosen practice.
The decision to start is not enough, you must decide to come back.
